Base Station Q - Colour Films collaborates for Sci-Fi London 48hr Film Challenge

Last weekend was full of anticipation and excitement as the annual 48 Hour Film Challenge kicked off. The name of the game is: sign up your team, prepare what you can, and Saturday midday each team is given a tailored brief to make a short film, which needs to be completed by Monday lunchtime.

Reeta Varpama and Adam Broder from Colour Films, the video and film production company based in Cambridge, took part in this year's competition with a group of filmmaker friends as Team Wonky Table. They got the title Base Station Q along with a line of dialogue, prop and sci-fi element to be included in the short film.

The team spent the first 24 hours on frantic brainstorming and locking down the idea and story, locations and additional props. The following 24 hours were spent solely on filming and post-production. With the Director and Co-Producer Martin Galvin leading the team, they had access to some unique locations.

Reeta Varpama, who edited and co-produced the film, said: 'None of us had ever attempted anything like this before, but with the amazing support and flexiblity from the talented and hard-working cast and crew, we made a film that we all can be very proud of. We truly did the best we could with the time and resources we had.'

The short film entries to Sci-Fi London are currently going through a lengthy short listing process. Meanwhile, you can enjoy watching and sharing Base Station Q here.
