The Cambridge ROAR Festival at Quy Mill Hotel is hosting the White Collar Boxing match on Saturday 1 July as part of a series of events during the summer. One hundred per cent of profits from each of these events goes to the three charities the Festival supports – the East Anglian Air Ambulance, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Cambridge United Community Trust.
White Collar Boxing is a form of boxing in which men and women from a range of professions train to box at special events. Most have had no prior boxing experience. Those currently signed up for the ROAR White Collar Boxing range from airline pilots and administrators to cleaners, bankers, and estate agents. The eager pugilists all have one thing in mind; to get fit and try something they may never have tried or will try again.
Head Coach and Nutritionist Gary Davidson Jnr from White Collar Boxing Cambridge, Thomas A Becket boxing gym, said: “This is a truly unique experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these guys and girls to train hard for FREE over 16 weeks and then show what they have learnt in a ring in front of their friends and families.
“What we offer is second-to-none and supported by professional boxing coaches and a state registered dietitian. We have the longest free training camp on the circuit to ensure no stone is left unturned by fight night. And, what's more, our unique safety first policy ensures that everyone involved gets the three rounds in and has a fantastic experience.”
Although the training starts on 14th March, those interested in training can still sign up at least 10 weeks prior to fight night. While Fitness levels vary, everyone who undergoes the training camp will be assigned an opponent who matches their abilities and fitness levels. Conversely, they will not know who they are fighting until 10 minutes before their bout.
Speaking ahead of the event, Cambridge ROAR Chairman and Founder, and General Manager of the Quy Mill Hotel, Tony Murdock said: “This is a fantastic way to get in shape all the while raising crucial money for the charities we support – and it’s all completely FREE. This is the third year we’ve held this event and opponents have ranged from consultants to engineers, vets to carpenters. It really is for everyone!
“You’ll be trained and prepped for your night in the spotlight, with two sessions each week specifically for yourself and the other White Collar Boxers – and a free monthly gym membership at the Quy Mill Hotel if you’d rather train another time.
“It’s not just a chance to get fit and healthy, but also a chance to compete for the now famous ‘Cambridge Roar Title Belt’ and take home all the glory from an adrenaline-fuelled night.”
In addition to the boxing, there will be plenty of prizes up for grabs in the raffle and auction for spectators.

The Cambridge ROAR, the only Festival of its kind in the region, exists to support charities that help local people and to date has raised almost £60,000 for these charities. The Festival offers a series of fun events, from comedy nights and corporate games to glitzy balls and themed dining experiences, all the while raising much-needed funds for the charities it supports. 100% of the profits from these events go to charity. In addition to the fun community events, which are all held at Quy Mill Hotel, the ROAR also creates opportunities for businesses to network, entertain clients and reward staff.
White Collar Boxing supposedly originated in New York in 1988. A doctor and an attorney trained for a few weeks before boxing each other at a black-tie event. Since then, White Collar Boxing has been the fastest growing corporate contact sport in the world. The sport is also often associated with films such as Fight Club.
