The decision will see McMahon, who joined the firm’s London Investment team in 1989 and took up the role of senior partner in 2009, retain the role through to 2022.
In his previous seven years as senior partner, Bidwells operating profit has grown by 118% to over £6 million a year, average Partner earnings have increased by over 40% and borrowing has reduced from £5 million to zero.
McMahon has also found time to lead on a number of ground breaking mixed-use development schemes including advising Brookgate on the delivery of CB1, Lord Rogers’ 1.6 million square feet masterplan vision to redevelop the area around Cambridge city station. He also guided Bidwells through a major rebrand last year to reinforce the firm’s strategy and has brought in new Equity Partners, including Mike Derbyshire as head of Planning from Savills and former Blenheim Palace chief executive, John Hoy, who joined this year to head the firm’s Rural division.
Under McMahon’s leadership, the firm’s strategy has been to offer clients access to specialist high growth real estate markets in the UK. Over 80% of the consultancy’s work is concentrated within the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Oxford, Cambridge and London, including sector-leading work in the science & technology, and education sectors. Bidwells also has a strong rural presence and manages thousands of square miles of the English and Scottish countryside and coastline. It is a leader in the high growth forestry, renewables, and agriculture markets which have consistently outperformed equities and bonds in recent years and are of significant interest to UK and overseas investors.
