Bidwells makes key senior appointments to Planning team

Leading property consultancy firm Bidwells is further strengthening its Planning team with two key senior appointments. Alison Wright, former RTPI Young Planner of the Year, joins along with retail and leisure specialist Baldip Basi, who prior to running his own company worked for Hepher Dixon. Both are also former Savills employees.

These appointments bring the Bidwells' Planning head count to 45, and are a clear indicator of its growing portfolio of work resulting from the diverse range of planning specialisms covered by the team.

Mike Derbyshire, Head of Planning said: "Alison and Baldip join us with a wealth of experience and an in-depth understanding of the planning sector. We are delighted they have joined our ever growing team and further strengthen our diverse range of planning specialisms. They have joined Bidwells at a very exciting time and I am certain they will help play a pivotal role in building on our success."

Alison, who will be based in the firm's Cambridge office, has over seven years' experience in the private sector. She has worked on a range of commercial, residential and rural schemes on behalf of public and private sector clients and presented at regional, national and international planning conferences.

Among her achievements to date, she has been part of a consultant team that secured planning permission for a 500-seat permanent ice arena in Cambridge. Alison also has a strong track record and an established working relationship with Taylor Wimpey UK Ltd and has previously secured outline planning permission for a number of large residential schemes across the East Midlands on their behalf.

She said: "I was attracted to Bidwells as they are a multi-disciplinary firm with a growing national reputation. I am looking forward to developing my career within the firm and contributing to its continued success."

Baldip has more than 12 years’ experience in private sector consultancy and has worked on applications across the UK. His particular specialism relates to the retail, leisure and education sectors.

During his career he worked for the retail sector and was involved in retail statements and sequential site assessments in support of various mixed-use schemes. Other schemes have included various Sainsbury's Local / Tesco Express format convenience stores.

For the restaurant and fast food sector, he has worked for a variety of global operators including McDonald Restaurants, Subway, KFC and Pizza Hut, where he advised on a range of issues from relaxing operational restrictions, change of use applications for new stores and enforcement issues.

And he has acted on behalf of a number of educational institutions, advising on a range of projects ranging from complete campus redevelopments to large scale extensions.  Most recently Baldip, who will be based in the Milton Keynes and Cambridge offices, has been advising a Berkshire based College on its development aspirations for its various campuses.

He said: "I have always been familiar with the Bidwells brand but my interest was really sparked when speaking to former colleagues.

"Their enthusiasm for the company, their colleagues and the variety of work they are involved with is what really triggered my curiosity to look into it further and I am delighted to have joined such a talented and diverse team."
