The Cumbrian Challenge 2017, now in its fifth year, will take place in the Lake District on Saturday 13 May 2017 across three potential routes, catering for varying levels of physical fitness and determination. The Peak (circa 15km), The Tough (circa 22km) and The Tougher (circa 30km). Each team of four will compete against inspirational wounded servicemen and women over the stunning peaks of the Lake District.
Walking With The Wounded was established in 2010 to raise funds for the re-education and re-training of wounded servicemen and women to help them find a career, so that they can support themselves and re-build a life in the civilian work place.
Nigel Farthing, Partner and sponsor of the CSR committee at Birketts, commented: “As a past participant I know first-hand that the Cumbrian Challenge provides a huge personal development opportunity for all those involved; team building, morale and health, while raising much needed funds for a fantastic cause. It’s particularly pleasing that colleagues at all levels across all four of our offices are supporting this fantastic challenge once again.”
Walking With The Wounded’s Partnership and Events Manager, Andy Sloan said: “We are really looking forward to seeing the teams from Birketts again. The firm has taken part twice before and raised over £20,000 for our support programmes across the UK. Every team that takes part in the Cumbrian Challenge supports another wounded veteran back into work so we are hugely grateful for the incredible and ongoing support from Birketts.”
