Book an exclusive tour of King's College Chapel this Christmas

King’s College in Cambridge will be opening its doors to the public over the Christmas holidays for the first time, to enable visitors to tour the College Chapel.

Exclusive tours, delivered by official Visit Cambridge & Beyond guides, will take place over three days from 27th-29th December. The College is usually closed to the public between 22nd December and 2nd January each year.

King's College Chapel is famed for its year-round choral services and Christmas associations, including the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols that, for many people around the world, signals the beginning of Christmas.  A splendid example of late Gothic architecture, the Chapel was begun in 1446 by Henry VI and took over a century to build.  It has the largest fan vault in the world and some of the finest medieval stained glass.

Only official Cambridge Blue and Green Badge guides are permitted to conduct group tours inside the Chapel.  Tours over this festive period will depart on the hour between 11am and 2pm.  A maximum of only 20 people will be allowed on any one tour.  Tours last 45 minutes and cost £15 (children 11 and under are free of charge).   Entry to the College in order to visit the Chapel is included in the ticket price.

John Milne, Guided Tours Manager for Visit Cambridge & Beyond, said: “There are many visitors in Cambridge between Christmas and New Year looking for places to visit with family and friends. This is an exclusive opportunity to take in the magnificence and splendour of this iconic Cambridge College, at such a magical time of year.”

“Places are limited, so do book early to avoid disappointment,” he added.

Tickets are available in advance at https://bit.ly/2PrWpZi until noon on 21st December, and may also be purchased from the King’s College Visitor Centre on the day, subject to availability.
