To be launched at Medica this week (Düsseldorf – 20-23 November 2013), it builds on Brandon’s patented and highly innovative HD LED technology.
The technology embedded in the Quasar eLite has also been developed for use in general lighting applications – the first of these being an intelligent lighting system developed for hospital ward lighting. This will enable, for the first time, fully controllable, natural lighting to be delivered in general lighting which is optimised to the ambient lighting conditions. The unique technology can be controlled via Bluetooth or an app from a mobile phone, meaning the lights can be changed remotely by patients or healthcare staff. In addition, the new lighting technology can track circadian rhythms, meaning that it mimics natural light and changes colour automatically depending on the time of day – significantly improving patient wellbeing and recovery and providing a better working environment for healthcare staff.

The development of the technology embedded in these products has been part funded by the European Framework 7 programme. The aim of Project Hercules© is to further develop existing high definition LED lighting technology for medical AND general lighting applications. Sagentia has been the lead technology research provider in the consortium as inventor of the original HD LED technology and with its broad understanding of all the technology aspects involved. It has driven the research into all the fundamental technology aspects including optics, materials, electronics and system design, as well as undertaking the modelling, testing, analysis and concept development. Project Hercules brings together an international consortium of small to medium enterprises and R&D companies, including Brandon Medical, Sagentia, DTMCumsa, Synergy Medical, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and TWI.
