Businesses in East of England look to become more Agile

Agile processes such as Scrum are becoming the norm when it comes to managing projects - especially those involving software development. New training opportunities in Cambridge and Peterborough are being launched to help develop the skills needed.

Companies involved in project management face the challenge of rapidly-changing requirements and technology.     They need to access the latest techniques to survive in a highly competitive world.

Agile processes such as Scrum set today’s standard, providing a Project Management approach to ensure high quality on-time delivery, and meet evolving customer needs and fast changing enabling technologies.  This is particularly the case for companies involved in web and software development.

The recent success of local practitioner communities, Agile Peterborough and Software East, has demonstrated the enthusiasm for these approaches.

The name Scrum is derived from the game of rugby – and in particular the concept of a self-managing, tightly knit team. Peter Measey (pictured) is one of the most experienced UK Scrum and Agile practitioners.

Peter says, “In the IT world, Agile is now the de facto standard. All too often people don’t fully understand the roles and challenges involved and the result can be what I call “fragile”. There still needs to be structure and discipline to ensure the right result”.

Local skills specialist, Focus on Training, has responded by expanding its Cambridge and Peterborough course schedules to include popular Agile topics. Courses available at Cambridge and Peterborough venues now include Certified ScrumMaster  and Agile Software Testing.

Focus Business Development Director, Rex Gibson, explains, “We contacted more than 100 local companies and a common theme was Agile project management, Agile development and Agile software testing. There are a growing number of businesses in the region for which IT skills underpin their success. They do not want to be forced to travel to London in order to meet every training need.”

Peter Measey will be delivering a Certified ScrumMaster course at Cambourne in November. Delegates leave these courses enthused by the energy which can be unlocked by adopting new working methods.

The full Focus schedule for the East of England includes 190 courses from July to December 2013. Those highlighted below are expected to be of particular interest.
