The artist will be holding a day-long, expenses paid, open workshop at Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridgeshire, on Saturday, 12 October, 10am – 6pm for up to 20 female singers. This workshop will be a chance to collectively test and produce new material and vocal scores, with the potential opportunity to be part of the production at Tate Britain in January 2014.
Singers will be working directly with Cally Spooner, alongside the core cast and musical director on developing the content of the work and it is therefore it is essential that you are flexible and willing to contribute to the devising process.
The project is seeking competent singers from a range of backgrounds who are able to read sheet music and are comfortable rehearsing in an open public environment. Wysing says: "We would be especially interested in hearing from any pre-existing all female choirs or vocal ensembles."
In preparation for the group workshop, Cally Spooner will be rehearsing with the core cast in an open session on Friday 11 October from 10am to 6pm. Audiences are invited to drop in throughout the two days to meet her and find out more about the project.
The work will form part of the continuing development of And You Were Wonderful, On Stage, a live performance originally commissioned by the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, which presented six female voices that gossiped about current affairs, fallen heroes, unfulfilled promises, and instances of automation parading as ”liveness”, whilst lacking its qualities (changeability, direct encounter and risk), in politics, pop music, and sport.
