So to play is an important skill for modern living. And to inspire all to follow that path, e-Luminate Cambridge has teamed up with Pat Kane to bring together an amazing collection of writers, performers, artists, academics, gamers and scientists for a one day event on February 13th 2017.
Over at the Guildhall, the team will be staging its first ever e-sports event - featuring the stars of the Cambridge games community. Tell your teenagers (or if you’re a gamer, tell yourself) to come and sample a range of cutting edge AR and VR games. Seoul comes to Cambridge!
Mark Green at Guerrilla Cambridge says: “We are delighted to be showing RIGS Mechanized Combat League and welcoming the Cambridge community to meet some of the team behind it.”
The Corn Exchange will be hosting a series of talks on the theme of play by illustrious speakers, including one of Cambridge's own gaming legends: David Braben.
Mr Braben is called ‘the giant of computer games in the UK”. He was creator of the strategy game Elite, which blazed a trail for many others in the field. David will show how computer games - and the spirit of play - are central to our culture today.
Pat Kane – curator of Nesta’s FutureFest, writer and musician – said: "Computer games literally 'play with light' - the pixels on the screen driven by software, both coming together to create these fabulous worlds that we can explore and delight in. It's great, and highly appropriate, that e-Luminate Cambridge is embracing play and games this year - and I've had enormous fun curating this event, particularly in such a creative place, with such a powerful games sector".
The organisers are welcoming more companies to come on board and showcase their games - get in touch with [email protected] to find out how to be part of the first ever e-Sports event in Cambridge.
There will be experts on the day to show the audience the ropes. If you think your thumbs are fast enough… come along, and bring your mates too! Power up and game on!
