Cambridge Capital Group expands

Cambridge Capital Group extends its reach across the region and internationally – with £2M invested in 2012-13.

Cambridge Capital Group investors, one of the two leading private angel groups in the region, have supported 13 innovation-led businesses in the Cambridge hi-tech cluster in the last financial year, including five new portfolio companies and six follow-on deals. Total investment for the 2012-13 year reached £2m.

Membership of investors has increased to 50 investors - business angels from the area as well as London plus three corporate members, including the Low Carbon Innovation Fund, Martlet (the seed investment vehicle of Marshall of Cambridge and one of East Anglia’s largest manufacturing employers) and a new fund being launched this year.

Cambridge Capital's inaugural investor event in Singapore in May this year in conjunction with its legal partners and UKTI, was part of an international expansion which has seen membership grow on three continents. Several portfolio companies were presented to Asian investors in the region as part of the “Cambridge Connection” programme.

Syndicate investors across the portfolio in the last year include Cambridge Enterprise, London Business Angels, Cambridge Angels, Imperial Innovations, NESTA and Qi3.  Cambridge Capital Group  says: "As a private group of investors we focus on trusted formal and informal networks for deal flow and syndicate partners."

New investments in the past 18 months included: Definigen, ORP, Lungfish, Knowledge Transmission, Isotera, Eagle Genomics, CMOS Sensors and Anvil Semiconductor.
