Cambridge children’s charity The Red Hen Project doubles impact through upcoming Big Give campaign

Cambridge charity The Red Hen Project is taking part in this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge (2-9 December), giving supporters the chance to have their donations doubled for one week only. The campaign offers a powerful way for people to make a greater impact on the lives of local children.

The Red Hen Project supports children and families facing challenges such as domestic abuse, trauma, poverty, ill-health, and other difficult life events through one-to-one family work, drop-in sessions, courses, crisis help, school holiday activities, and volunteering opportunities for parents. Its long-term, relationship-based approach helps improve wellbeing, build resilience, and reduce inequality across the community.

By taking part in The Big Give, every pound donated to The Red Hen Project between 2-9 December 2025 will be matched, effectively doubling its value. The Big Give is the UK’s largest match-funding platform for charities and raised more than £44.7 million for over 1,200 organisations in just one week during its 2024 Christmas Challenge. This year, The Red Hen Project hopes to harness that same generosity to reach even more children who need support.

The charity’s Big Give campaign is made possible through a local pledge from CPS Building Services Ltd and the support of its Big Give Champion, The Monday Charitable Trust. Together, they will match donations from the public, helping ensure that no child in Cambridge misses out on the chance to thrive.

Last year, The Red Hen Project raised over £20,000 which helped fund the charity supporting over 152 children intensively and providing over 4350+ hours of support through open drop-in sessions. With demand for support continuing to rise, this year’s campaign aims to raise even more to extend its reach and provide stability for families under pressure.

Sarah Crick from The Red Hen Project said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helps make the Big Give possible. The match-funding means that every donation has twice the impact, allowing us to help even more children to grow up happy and healthy. The generosity of our community truly makes the difference.”
