Cambridge China Centre helps Cambridge ring in the Year of the Pig

The team at Cambridge China Centre, together with Cambridge Chinese Community Centre, is co-organising the Cambridge Chinese Culture Festival 2019, a new festival uniting local communities, businesses and organisations together with the 6,000 Chinese people working, studying and living in Cambridge.

With events over two weeks, there are a number of ways for businesses and local people to get involved.

The Chinese New Year happens on the first day of the first month of the Lunar calendar when the seasons move from Yin (dark/winter) to Yang (light/spring). It has roots in cultural and religious traditions dating back thousands of years that balance layers of folk traditions and philosophy. For 2019 the Chinese New Year’s Day falls on Tuesday 5th February 2019.

Surrounding the big day, Cambridge Chinese Culture Festival 2019 lasts from late-January to mid-February and will be active with cultural events throughout Cambridge, including a contemporary art exhibition of Chinese artists, a concert, a special film screening of The Soul of Himalaya, a family day at the Fitzwilliam Museum, gala performances, a Chinese New Year dinner, Chinese New Year cultural activities with local schools, and a Chinese New Year promotion across the city.  Cambridge China Centre has curated an exciting programme of activities, which are all listed at www.cambridgechinacentre.org/CCCF2019.

Co-founder Jinzhao Li spoke about the festival, “It is very exciting for us to be bringing together these cultural activities under one umbrella, helping other organisations across the city to celebrate Chinese New Year with the many Chinese residents and visitors we have.”

Businesses are getting involved with Chinese New Year window decorations, taking part in the #CambRedPacket promotion and sponsoring events.  The team welcomes interest from businesses via enquiry@cambridgechinacentre.org

With so much going on across the city – the Cambridge China Centre looks forward to celebrating the Year of the Pig with you.  Do use the event hashtag on Twitter to see updates as they happen #CCCFestival . For more information go to http://bit.ly/2FnFd5K
