Jimmy’s is a community-based charity that provides housing and support for rough sleepers in Cambridge and opened the first all-year round night shelter.

The charity received the largest share of votes from employees, who were asked which cause they would like to support throughout this year.

The Cambridge’s CEO, Peter Burrows, said: “There was overwhelming support in favour of Jimmy’s, which as a housing-based charity, is a cause very close to all our hearts.

“I am inspired to see the efforts our people go to in raising funds for charities, especially in these challenging times, and I’m delighted that as an organisation we can match those funds to double the support we can offer.

“I know that everyone is very much looking forward to putting their charity day to good use this year and seeing how much money we can donate to a good cause.”

Every member of staff at The Cambridge receives a day to devote to a charitable cause to raise money that the organisation will then match, thereby doubling donations.

Members of the team have already started fundraising for Jimmy’s with Cyber Security Analyst, Andrew Colbran, raising £850 by running the London marathon this weekend, which will be matched by The Cambridge. £1,150 was also donated through voting at the AGM on Monday (24th).

Last year’s charity was Women’s Aid, which received £11,230 in funds raised by The Cambridge through fundraising events, matched donations and £1,100 from voting at the AGM.

Community Engagement Officer at Jimmy’s, Barry Griffiths, said: “We are tremendously grateful to The Cambridge for supporting us in the work we do to aid rough sleeping in Cambridge.

“It is lovely to know that the local workforce appreciates what we do and voted to help us.”
