Alistair Cook, Pubs Officer, Cambridge & District CAMRA, says: "Of the area's rural pubs, the Crown Inn in Ashley, our 2016 Pub of the Year, returns to the guide for the first time since 1991 while the White Horse in Milton appears for the first time. In the city, the Queen Edith, rebuilt by Milton Brewery and reopened in April 2015, appears for the first time. The Queen’s Head in Newton is one of only a handful of pubs nationwide to have appeared in all 44 editions of the Guide.
"The Cambridge area is renowned for its excellent pubs serving a fine range of excellently kept, often locally brewed, real ales. Our branch’s entries reflect the diversity of our best pubs, urban, suburban and rural, free houses and tied, historic and modern, large and small, those that do food and those that don’t. What they have in common is the quality of their real ales.
"Our branch members are invited to give their opinions on our pubs and the top 26 eligible pubs go into the Good Beer Guide. We have over 200 pubs in our area so to be one of the 26 that get in is an achievement in itself. As new pubs come in, it is inevitable that others will miss out. I’m sure that their licensees will be hoping they make a swift return. The standard was again impressive and several fine pubs only narrowly missed out."
CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale (http://www.camra.org.uk), has over 180,000 members nationally, over 4,000 of who are in the Cambridge & District branch (http://www.cambridge-camra.org.uk). The branch area covers the city of Cambridge, most of South Cambridgeshire and parts of East Cambridgeshire.
