Cambridge Index declines 6.3%

The Cambridge index slipped 6.3% or 1,101.5 points to end at 16,452.3, as eight of the top ten index heavyweights recorded weekly losses to their share prices.

 

Barclays reiterated its “Overweight” rating on ARM Holdings, down 9.2%, with a target price of 1250p. The stock received mixed rating from various other brokers.

AlphaValue reiterated its “Add” rating on Johnson Matthey, down 4.8%, with a target price of 2776p. The stock was subject to mostly positive reviews.

Jefferies reiterated its “Hold” rating on DS Smith, down 5.1%, with a target price of 430p. Canaccord Genuity restated its “Buy” rating on Greene King, down 1.8%, with a target price of 1100p.

Northland Securities restated its “Buy” rating on Amino Technologies, up 7.8%, with a target price of 155p. Xaar, up 7.3%, announced that Professor Neil Hopkinson has been appointed as a Director of 3D Printing and will join in March 2016. FinnCap reiterated its “Hold” rating on the stock.

Bango, up 6.8%, announced that it has collaborated with Microsoft Corporation to deliver carrier-billed payments across Windows 10 devices. Scientific Digital Imaging, up 4.3%, announced that its half year revenues climbed by 15% YoY to £3.7m. Profit before tax stood at £13,000 compared to a loss of £23,000 over the previous year. The Board expects that the earnings will be boosted by the recent Sentek acquisition and make significant progress in the second half.

Sepura rose 3.3%. The company announced that Richard Smith has commenced his role as the group’s Chief Financial Officer which was announced on 7 July 2015. N+1 Singer reissued its “Buy” rating on the stock with a target price of 210p.

Dialight, up 0.6%, announced that it has appointed Investec Bank Plc as its corporate broker and financial adviser with immediate effect.

Brady, down 0.9%, announced that it has acquired the Energycredit unit from Temenos Group. The company also announced that Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk AS (NTE), a Norwegian energy utility company, has selected the company’s Energy Trading and Risk Management solution to manage its energy trading, position, risk, and back-office operations.

Tristel, down 1.4%, announced that it has upgraded its German operational branch to subsidiary status. Numis reiterated its “Add” rating on AVEVA Group, down 7%, with a target price of 1910p. The stock received mixed ratings from various other brokers.

Vernalis, down 9.4%, announced that it has appointed Corvus Pharmaceuticals, a US based pharmaceutical biotechnology company, as its global licensee for its adenosine antagonist program in immuno-oncology, following a deal it signed in February 2015.

UK markets ended sharply lower last week, as the slowdown in Chinese economy led to a decline in commodity shares. Moreover, manufacturing PMI data came in lower than expected in December. The FTSE 100 index slid 5.3% to 5,912.8, while the FTSE AIM 100 Index declined 2.3% to finish at 3,441.7. The FTSE techMARK 100 Index fell 3.6% to 3,880.8.

US markets closed lower over the previous week, as the nation’s manufacturing sector posted its worst reading since June 2009. Additionally, the World Bank reduced global growth forecast for 2016. The DJIA index dropped 6.2% to 16,346.5, while the NASDAQ Index slipped 7.3% to 4,643.6.
