Cambridge Index marginally rises

The Cambridge Index rose 3.78 points or 0.02% to close at 24,249.6, as three out of the top ten index heavyweights posted weekly gains in their share price.

Frontier Developments, up 17.2%, in its trading update, announced that it expects FY25 revenues to be around £90m (FY24: £89.3m), which is ahead of expectations through strong performances across Frontier's game portfolio. Additionally, the company will provide further information on FY25 and current trading in a trading update on 11 June 2025. 

Bango, up 7.6%, announced that it would release its final results for the twelve months ended 31 December 2024 on 06 June 2025. 

Avingtrans, up 5.1%, in its trading update, announced that it expects to deliver adjusted EBITDA ahead of market expectations, driven by better-than-anticipated performance within the Advanced Engineering Systems (AES) division. Revenues are expected to be in line. Additionally, the company will provide a more detailed trading update in mid-June 2025.

CyanConnode, down 6.2%, today, announced that, further to its announcements on 14 April 2025 and 12 May 2025 regarding the Government of Goa's Electricity Department's contract award for its smart meter project for around £70m, it has now signed the formal contract agreement for this project, to deploy around 750,000 smart meters. 

Sareum Holdings, down 5.0%, announced that it has initiated a programme of toxicology studies for its lead TYK2/JAK1 inhibitor, SDC-1801. The studies, designed to support longer-term dosing of SDC-1801, will investigate the general toxicology and potential of SDC-1801 to interact with other drugs. 

Tristel, down 3.9%, today, announced that it would provide its trading update for the year ended 30 June 2025 on 29 July 2025. 

Checkit, down 3.2%, announced that its annual general meeting (AGM) would be held on 05 June 2025 at 12:00 noon at Fieldfisher LLP, Riverbank House, 2 Swan Lane, London EC4R 3TT. 

4basebio, down 1.3%, in its results for the year ended 31 December 2024, announced that revenues rose to £0.93m from £0.51m recorded in the previous year. Loss before tax widened to £12.65m from £8.35m. Its cash and cash equivalents stood at £34.60m. Additionally, the notice of the company’s annual general meeting, which is to be held on 27 June 2025 at 9:00 am in the offices of 4basebio Plc, is expected to be uploaded to the company's website.

UK markets ended higher last week, driven by optimism over a limited US-UK trade agreement, which eased trade tensions and improved investor confidence. On the data front, the UK BRC shop price index dropped in May. The FTSE 100 index advanced 0.6% to settle at 8,772.4, while the FTSE AIM 100 index rose 1.4% to close at 3,615.7. Additionally, the FTSE techMARK 100 index gained 1.5% to end at 6,762.4.

US markets ended higher in the previous week, boosted by strong quarterly corporate earnings reports. On the macro front, the US gross domestic product dropped less than anticipated in 1Q 2025, while the nation’s durable goods orders declined less than expected in April, due to the decline in aircraft orders. Moreover, the US personal income advanced more than expected in April, while the nation’s personal spending rose as anticipated in April. Additionally, the US consumer confidence index improved in May, while the nation’s Michigan consumer sentiment unexpectedly remained steady in May.  Meanwhile, the US pending home sales dropped sharply in April, amid higher mortgage rates, while the nation’s weekly jobless claims climbed more than expected in the week ended 23 May 2025. Separately, the FOMC minutes indicated that tariffs could ignite inflation and create a difficult quandary with interest rate policy. The DJIA index rose 1.6% to end at 42,270.1, while the NASDAQ index gained 2% to close at 19,113.8.
