Cambridge Index rises 4.3%

The Cambridge Index climbed 4.3% or 619.65 points to 14,893.9, as seven of the top ten index heavy-weights posted weekly gains.

 

ARM Holdings rose 3.9%, despite mixed broker reviews. Investec cut its price target from 380p to 350p with a “Buy” rating on DS Smith, up 3.3%. CSR jumped 27.7%, following a $2.5bn bid from US smartphone chipmaker, Qualcomm.

N+1 Singer reiterated its “Corporate” rating on 1Spatial, up 11.5%. Credit Suisse upgraded its rating on Aveva Group, up 8.3%, to an “Outperform” with a price target of 1,800p, up from its previous price target of 1,700p. Jefferies Group upgraded its rating to a “Buy” with a target of 1,760p.

Amino Technologies improved 8.1%. The company projected its revenue for the year ended 30 November 2014 to be in line with market expectations, but expects its profit before tax to be ahead of expectations.

Bango, up 3.8%, announced the placement of up to 6.25m shares at 96p, raising gross proceeds of £6m before expenses. Sphere Medical Holding added 3.5%, after it announced a positive Proxima 3 Post Market Clinical Follow-up Study at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

Tristel improved 2%. The company announced that its turnover was up 28% to £13.47mn for the year ended 30 June 2014, from £10.56mn in 2013. Its pre-tax profit stood at £1.82mn, up from £0.48mn in 2013. Investec reissued its “Sell” rating on Xaar, up 0.1%.

Blinkx, which remained unchanged, announced an expanded enterprise agreement with Integral Ad Science, enabling access to proprietary IAS technology that analyses media quality and protects against fraud in real time.

Horizon Discovery Group, down 0.6%, announced that its CombinatoRx division has been contracted by a top ten pharma company to profile a lead oncology drug and will be paid around $450,000 for a six month period. Beaufort Securities reaffirmed its “Speculative Buy” rating. Panmure Gordon reissued its “Buy” rating with a price objective of 230p.

Investec has cut its price target from 650p to 615p with an “Add” rating on Domino Printing Sciences, down 0.9%. Frontier Developments, down 5.3%, is developing the exclusive original game, ‘Tales from Deep Space’, for Amazon Game Studios’ Kindle Fire using Frontier's proprietary 'Cobra' technology. Investec has downgraded its rating on Dialight, down 7.1%, to a “Sell” with a price target of 850p, lower than its previous price target of 910p. Sareum Holdings declined 10%, after the company posted a pre-tax loss of £837,125 for the year ended 30 June 2014, compared to a loss of £602,802 in the previous year, mainly attributable to higher administrative expenses.

During the last week, UK markets finished lower, after the annual inflation rate in the UK declined to a 5-year low in September. The FTSE 100 index fell 0.5% to 6,310.3, while the FTSE techMARK 100 Index dropped 1.9% to 3,075.4. The FTSE AIM 100 Index also retreated 3.1% to 2,960.4.

US markets closed lower in the past week, amid a mixed set of domestic economic data from the US. The DJIA index lost 1% to 16,380.4, while the NASDAQ index inched 0.4% lower to 4,258.4.
