Cambridge Live is a non-profit distributing organisation that has taken over from Cambridge City Council the governance, management and operation of the Cambridge Corn Exchange & Guildhalls, the Cambridge Folk Festival, as well as also delivering a range of events on behalf of the Council, including its annual Big Weekend and Bonfire Night.
The launch of Cambridge Live was marked by a day of free events at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, and Guildhalls.
History was also made during the inaugural concert with a live piano recital from Corn Exchange artist-in-residence Freddy Kempf who performed in the main Council Chamber of the Guildhall – the first ever musical performance held in a space normally reserved for political debating.
Hundreds of local people also enjoyed a day of free entertainment at the Cambridge Corn Exchange with free performances throughout the day provided by singer/songwriter Ethan Ash, Sanskruti School of Dance, Caxton Brass, King Slocombe School of Dance, a collective of local folk musicians plus The Mariachis who took the sights and sounds of Mexican music on to the streets of Cambridge.
The launch of Cambridge Live was made official at a glittering evening VIP reception at the Guildhall where City Council Chief Executive Antoinette Jackson formally handed over to Cambridge Live Chair Sara Garnham. The evening was rounded off by a rousing free performance from interactive choir The Dowsing Sound Collective who brought their unique sing-along performance LungJam to a packed Corn Exchange, ending the night on a real party high.
Cambridge Live also announced the opportunity to feature as one of the first business partners for its first major outdoor event that will be run by the charity, The Big Weekend (10 – 12 July 2015).
The event, which has an anticipated audience of 30,000 people, has opportunities available for local companies to join existing partners and supporters such as technological giant ARM. The benefits include branding, corporate hospitality, direct marketing, social media, and an onsite presence on Cambridge’s Parker’s Piece. Sara Garnham, Chair of Cambridge Live said “ The curtain went up on Cambridge Live last night after a day celebrating excellence through a range of diverse and hugely enjoyable events. We shared our vision with partners, sponsors and supporters who we hope will encourage other local companies in the region to get involved”.
