Last Friday 27th January Cambridge International School Sixth Form (Ci6) was visited by Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge.
Daniel Zeichner is a member of the Labour Party and a great supporter of education in the city.
"Education is changing," Daniel told the gathered Ci6 students over a cup of tea and some biscuits. "Cambridge is such a great global international City. You bring experiences from all over the place and we can do things differently and better."
The MP was given an informal summary, from current Ci6 students, of the innovative approach to post-16 education that is delivered from the Cambridge City location.
When asked how Ci6 could spread the word about its uniqueness, Daniel responded with his thoughts: "People are frightened of the future and I absolutely understand why because if you haven't got the kind of communication skills that you are all developing here then the world is a frightening place."
"You are going with the grain about what a lot of people are feeling about our education system. I think there are benefits to be gained from people listening to what you are doing too."
The MP was given an insight into how creativity is fostered at Ci6 through unique business opportunities, regular generation of ideas, and the freedom to pursue individual choices.
"Institutions like Google realise the creativity you unleash by giving people freedom far outweighs the kind of disciplinarian approach when you have to clock in" said Daniel.
Overall the MP seemed very impressed with what he heard about the frameworks in place at Ci6 and the way entrepreneurship is interwoven into the fabric of life at the college.
"In the modern world the kind of skills that are going to be required for the jobs of the future are exactly the kind of things you are talking about, the interpersonal skills and the problem solving skills".
The students at Ci6 were thrilled to be told by the Member of Parliament for Cambridge that they are at 'the leading edge'.
Come and see for yourself what the future looks like at the next Ci6 Education Innovation Showcase on Thursday 23rd February from 5.30pm until 7.30pm at 62 Bateman Street.
