Cambridge Regional College celebrates Apprenticeship Week

Cambridge Regional College is pulling out all the stops for Apprenticeship Week next week – with a charity Asian banquet, a fabulous six-course dinner cooked by CRC’s star apprentices, masterclasses and school workshops.

The week, which starts on Monday, (3 March), is part of a national initiative celebrating apprentices and their employers, and encouraging more young people to learn about apprenticeship programmes.

The college, which is partnering the Cambridge News in a campaign to recruit 125 apprentices to mark the paper’s 125th anniversary, will be staging its busiest programme of events to date.

One of the highlights of the week will be a day-long Asian cookery masterclass for full-time students at the college, who will work with expert chefs and their apprentices to create a fabulous charity Asian banquet in aid of EACH – the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

Another spectacular feast will see apprentice chefs showcasing their talent with their annual six-course fine dining Apprenticeship Dinner – always a big hit with employers and families.

During the week, employment experts will be visiting schools to talk to them about apprenticeships in a series of specialist workshops.

And members of the public are invited into a week-long display on apprenticeships in the college Learning Resources Centre, focusing on the success stories of CRC’s apprentices.

On Friday, 7 March, the college will be taking part in the Alconbury Jobs Fair at the Alconbury Enterprise Campus – offering visitors the opportunity to find out about current apprenticeship job
vacancies, talk to employers, find out about training opportunities and get great career advice from the experts.

Laraine Moody, Assistant Principal and Head of Employer Engagement at CRC, said the college was pulling out all the stops for Apprenticeship Week.

“Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to get their first step on the career ladder, and bring big benefits to employers,” she said. “We will be showcasing some amazing achievements of our apprentices and the work they do, and encouraging young people to think about apprenticeships as an option for the future.

“We are also delighted to be running a very successful campaign with the News – backed by the Duke of York and the Prime Minister – which is encouraging employers to take on a young
apprentice."
