The two lucky East Anglian winners will be strutting their stuff during the London Fashion Week (16 September) and on the Roar catwalk (23 September), at which they will be modelling for designers from around the world with never-before-seen collections.
The competition is open to anyone aged 15 years and over with little or no experience. A casting session is set for Sunday 16 July for candidates selected by a jury of four, including Tony Murdock, Founder and Chairman of the Cambridge Roar Festival; Savita Kaye, Founder and CEO of House of iKons; Alice Ryan, Editor of Cambridge Magazine; and a surprise judge.
Following the casting, two winners will be chosen and subsequently trained in catwalk modelling techniques. They will be dressed by a selection of innovative and emerging designers from the House of iKons and feature in London Fashion Week and this year’s Roar Fashion Show. Previous designers include Rocky Gathercole who has gone on to dress celebrities such as Katy Perry and Paris Hilton.
Speaking about the competition and Fashion Show, Tony Murdock, Founder and Chairman of the Roar said: “This year’s model competition and Fashion Show is typical of the events we like to produce here at the Roar, giving local people a chance to be part of something they may not normally have the opportunity to be involved in either as a spectator or model candidate. One of the most exciting things about this year’s Fashion Show is that it could be the first step in any local wannabe model’s career. I’m also sure it’s going to be making some powerful fashion statements.”
House of iKons Founder and CEO, Savita Kaye, commented: “Creating fashion shows is what I do and love doing. However, working on the Roar Fashion Show gives me something extra. It's a truly worthwhile project because I know this Show is making money for the greater good. As such, it’s always a real pleasure to be involved and do what I can to help the Roar Festival and in so doing also help the incredible charities it supports. The bonus this year is that we will also be helping two local models potentially launch their career in fashion.”
The Cambridge Roar Festival, now in its fourth year, raises money for local charities by staging several high-profile events within the grounds of the Quy Mill hotel at Stow Cum Quy. The Fashion Show is one of 12 events taking place between 17 June and 30 September 2017.
Applicants for the model competition are invited to send a photograph and a brief biography by Friday 7 July to [email protected] for a chance to be part of the competition.
Tickets for the Fashion Show are just £15 with a VIP option at just £25 (for the afternoon session this includes Afternoon Tea in the Hotel and prime seating at the show).

The Cambridge ROAR, the only Festival of its kind in the region, exists to support charities that help local people and to date has raised almost £60,000 for these charities. The Festival offers a series of fun events, from comedy nights and corporate games to glitzy balls and fashion shows, all the while raising much-needed funds for the charities it supports. 100% of the profits from these events go to charity. In addition to the fun community events, which are all held at Quy Mill Hotel and Spa, the ROAR also creates opportunities for businesses to network, entertain clients and reward staff.
This year, the ROAR’s three chosen charities are Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, East Anglian Air Ambulance and Cambridge United Community Trust.
