Cambridge Sensotec brings forming gas to the fore

The team at Cambridge Sensotec feels it’s important to listen to customers.

They say: "The feedback we collect drives new product development and enables us to implement new innovations within our product range, such as the new Rapidox 2100-FGA."

Developed specifically for use in forming gas applications, the Rapidox 2100-FGA zirconia oxygen analyser not only allows fast and accurate oxygen analysis down to extremely low levels but also calculates the thermodynamic H2O dewpoint.

What is forming gas?

Forming gas is a mixture of Hydrogen (H2) and an inert gas, usually Nitrogen (N2). It’s used as an atmosphere gas for various applications, particularly those in the metal heat treatment industry and solder reflow industry.

Forming gas can be used to remove oxidisation from a variety of metals, effectively bringing oxygen and moisture from out of the surface. Once this has been achieved, the metal can be solidified and made stronger. After the process, what you are left with is water, which is why the dewpoint reading is so important.

The Rapidox 2100-FGA has the convenience and ease of use of our original Rapidox 2100 analyser. Features specific to forming gas were implemented in key areas to ensure fast and accurate oxygen analysis is guaranteed, every time.

One convenient new feature introduced is the hot swap sensor. This enables the user to swap over pre-calibrated sensors locally without the aid of a PC, and without having to send your analyser back to us. The addition of the ‘hot swap sensor’ is a feature we are proud of.

Whilst on the sensor, the zirconia sensor inside the FGA has been modified so the measurement range is extended down to 10E-30ppm O2. This allows the analyser to cover the ultra-low oxygen partial pressures in forming gas, as results in this process can be extreme.

If you are in the metal heat treatment industry, solder reflow industry or operate within extreme temperatures, the Rapidox 2100-FGA is the ideal solution for you. As well as being easy to calibrate and low maintenance, this analyser is verified by a thermodynamics professor at Cambridge University confirming the quality and reliability of the Rapidox 2100-FGA.
