Cambridge University’s Bennett Institute calls for ideas to transform UK public health

The Bennett Institute for Public Policy at the University of Cambridge is calling for ideas from early career researchers and policy professionals to transform public health in the UK for its 2019/20 Bennett Prospect Prize.

The £10,000 annual prize explores creative and generative solutions to a pressing public policy question of our age. It is organised in partnership with Prospect Magazine.

This year’s question asks: ‘Which single public health intervention would be most effective in the UK?’

Essays and films are invited addressing any of the major public health concerns in the UK today. This could include inequalities in life and healthy life expectancy, smoking, air pollution, childhood obesity, mental health, and anti-microbial resistance.

The judging panel will include the co-directors of the Bennett Institute political scientist Professor Michael Kenny and economist Professor Diane Coyle, the editor of Prospect Magazine Tom Clark, and the Director of the Behaviour and Health Research Unit at the University of Cambridge, Professor Dame Theresa Marteau.

Theresa Marteau commented: “The Bennett Institute is an interdisciplinary policy research organisation, and as such the judging panel welcomes all innovative ideas from any discipline with the potential to have a real impact on population health across the UK.  This is a fantastic opportunity to both celebrate and support the wealth of early career policy research taking place across the UK and beyond.”

The prize is open for submissions until 31 December 2019 for early career researchers and policy professionals of any nationality, with winners to be announced in Spring 2020.
