CambridgeIP looks for an acquirer

CambridgeIP (Cambridge Intellectual Property Ltd), the Cambridge-based provider of patent-based research, patent analysis software and patent databases, announced today that it is seeking an acquisition from within the industry. The business has already attracted considerable interest from potential buyers keen to capitalise on the company’s expertise and software.

In its eight year history, CambridgeIP has worked with many global enterprises, governments, SMEs and investors. Its team has also authored many influential patent landscaping reports in the energy, nanotech and life sciences industries which have been covered by the BBC, FT, The Economist, Nature and other media.

The company’s strength and differentiator is the unique combination of highly sophisticated patent analytics software, a toolkit and workflow process refined through hundreds of projects, and an ability to map key patents related to a company’s R&D activity.  In addition, in the last few years the company has built one of the largest databases of patents and related literature, amassing over 100 million documents. CambridgeIP is one of the few independent companies in the IP strategy industry able to combine a research and consultancy capability, with in-house software and databases.

Like many early stage companies, CambridgeIP has been reliant on funding from its shareholders in order to build a critical mass. However, in recent years M&A in the industry has led to a need for independent providers to join larger corporations in order to stay competitive and scale their offering. CambridgeIP is now seeking an acquisition that can help the company secure its future.  The business has already attracted considerable interest from potential buyers keen to capitalise on the company’s expertise and software.
