Cambridge’s 30 Bird receives £150,000 to enhance diversity in art and culture sector

Cambridge-based 30 Bird is among 40 diverse organisations to receive a share of £5.3million as the Arts Council today (8 August) announces successful applicants to the Elevate Fund.

Organisations will be funded through the Arts Council’s Elevate fund, designed to strengthen the resilience of organisations that are already contributing to enhancing diversity within the sector. Initially a £2.1 million fund, the level of funding has been uplifted using Lottery money due to the strength of applications received.

30 Bird project
With the support of £150,000, 30 Bird Productions will develop its business model, staffing and programming. As part of this work, 30 Bird will review its strategies for fundraising, marketing and audience development and governance, creating a stronger platform for sustainable growth.

Hedley Swain, Area Director, South East, Arts Council England, said: “We already have a varied and rich arts and cultural sector in England, but we know that there is more to do before it truly reflects the wide diversity that runs through our cities, towns and villages. Elevate funding is a really important part of making that happen, providing essential support that will enable more diverse-led organisations to grow, both as businesses and programmers of high quality arts. 30 Bird has outlined ambitious plans to extend its talent development and participation work and we are really pleased to be able to support this through Elevate.”

Elevate
The fund was developed in response to an equality analysis led by the Arts Council in 2014 which highlighted the low number of new applications to the National Portfolio from BME and disability-led organisations. Elevate aims to help support these organisations in making strong applications to future Arts Council investment rounds, so that the breadth of organisations funded better reflect the England’s diverse communities.
