The unemployment level for Cambridge is already at a low 3 percent compared to the UK average of 7.2 percent and there are also fewer people on Jobseeker’s Allowance in our city than elsewhere in the UK. Workers in Cambridge have been rated the most highly-skilled in the country with more than a quarter of locals working in knowledge-intensive industries (double the national average) and as a result average earnings are at £40,000 a year - higher than much of the UK.
Cambridge is home to some of the largest and most profitable companies in the UK, particularly those companies in the flourishing technology and scientific industries. For example ARM has its headquarters in Cambridge. This is the company which designed the chips that power more than 90 per cent of the world’s mobile phones and is a company that is now worth around $22bn. Cambridge will also soon be home to the £330m global research HQ of the drugs giant AstraZeneca.
The University of Cambridge is also largely behind the city’s economic success as it continually puts money back into Cambridgeshire’s development. The University is currently working on a huge £1bn development which includes new research facilities, 3,000 new homes, space for 2,000 post-graduate students, new schools, nurseries, shops and surgeries. All this development creates job opportunities and also attracts both more business and people to the city.
According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), there are now more job vacancies in the UK than at any time since before the recession. There are currently around 580,000 vacancies in the UK which is the highest figure since September 2008, when the economy was at its pre-recession height. This is up from 492,000 in the same period a year ago. So with this increase in vacancies in the UK as a whole, along with the way that Cambridgeshire as county is constantly expanding, it is not a surprise that Brand Recruitment has become busier and busier over the past few months with the demand for marketing experts growing.
Brand Recruitment recruits for PR, communications and marketing jobs in Cambridgeshire as well as across the rest of the Central and Eastern regions of England including: Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and Suffolk.

Cambridgeshire helps lead the UK out of recession
5 March 2014
Brand Recruitment are based in Cambridge, a city which during a recent visit, was described by Prime Minister David Cameron as lying ‘at the heart of Britain’s economic recovery’ as the country makes its way out of the recession. The PM recognised that for centuries Cambridge has been a ‘hub for innovation and enterprise’ and said that what is needed now is commitment to making sure that jobs and opportunities keep flowing in the years to come.
