CCVS appoints a new CEO after a successful campaign managed by Whitehill Pelham

Whitehill Pelham are pleased to have successfully completed a search for a Chief Executive Officer for Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service (CCVS). Brad Stombock was appointed to the role in July 2015.

The Executive Committee selected Whitehill Pelham to search for a new Chief Executive who could drive the strategic agenda for the organisation.  The current landscape for infrastructure groups is challenging, the sector is consolidating and access to funding is tightening.  The Trustees wanted to secure a Chief Executive who is passionate about delivering excellent services to their members and who will actively pursue avenues for growth and the delivery of new services to ensure the ongoing success of CCVS.

A full and open search for the new CEO was conducted, which included a national advertising campaign specifically targeted at the charity sector.  All CCVS members and key stakeholders were also made aware of the campaign through the CCVS monthly newsletter.

The complete process was managed by Whitehill Pelham, which included conducting interviews with the longlist and providing recommendations on the shortlist for the board to interview.  A competency framework was designed for the first stage interviews which were hosted at Whitehill Pelham’s office.  The panel included Richard DeNetto from Whitehill Pelham and the Executive Committee of CCVS.

Richard comments, “There was strong interest in the position and a comprehensive shortlist of candidates was identified.  The competency questions designed for the interview process gave the panel a robust tool to assess the merits of each candidate in a fair and transparent way.  On the day, it was clear that Brad was the preferred candidate as not only did he meet or exceed all the competencies for the role, he had a clear passion for the organisation.  Brad came from a background of delivering training and providing support to a membership base, which meant he understood the importance of knowing your audience and adapting to meet their changing needs.”

Mary Sanders CCVS Chair of Trustees comments on the recruitment campaign and the decision to use Whitehill Pelham.  “When CCVS needed to find a new CEO, we turned to Whitehill Pelham to help us. We had a very difficult task to fill a post that needed a wide range of skills. Richard at Whitehill Pelham helped us to focus on what to look for and handled the entire initial selection processes really well, in addition to supporting us through the interviews, which led to the successful appointment of Brad as our CEO.”

The team at Whitehill Pelham look forward to seeing CCVS flourish under Brad’s leadership.
