Homerton College turns French for a night to Celebrate Bastille Day 2015
L’Alliance Française writes:
As celebrations are held around France and around the world, it is only right and proper that Cambridge participate in what is always a memorable event.
Our aim is to share one of the bedrock experiences of French culture with you, in a setting that can’t be bettered anywhere else in the world, with people that mean a lot to us.
Exactly 226 years ago, the French Revolution started with the storming of the Bastille on 14th July 1789. Those who have listened to the lyrics of the French national anthem will have a sense of the passion and fervour of the French people at this time.
Sharing “un dîner à la française”, celebrating such a historical event in such a setting as the illustrious Homerton college is a match made in heaven when you consider the original inception of Homerton (In London - 1768) occurred as “Les Lumières” were pushing for educational reforms in France at this time.
If the historical significance does not float your boat then why not just treat it as an opportunity to put on your best bib & tucker, eat well and meet like-minded Francophiles.
We hope you will join us in celebrating Bastille Day but if you can’t be with us we hope you enjoy it wherever you are.
