Chain Reaction is just days away

The Chain Reaction is back for its fourth year, bigger and better than ever. At this spectacular Cambridge Science Centre event at the Guildhall on Saturday (22 November), families, schools and local companies will get stuck into building a huge chain of crazy contraptions that trigger one another around the room and across the stage.

The Cambridge Science Centre team writes:

Our annual spectacular event the Chain Reaction is just days away. Have you booked your chance to build and watch Cambridge's biggest chain of crazy contraptions? Join in this spectacular event, now in its fourth year.

Families, schools and companies can all enter teams. The sections of the mind-boggling chain will all come together on Saturday 22 November at the Guildhall.
Cambridge Hands-on Science will also be on site with some hands-on experiments to try out.

More about booking and tickets details here.
Space will be very tight with all the building going on, which means we can't release any spectator tickets for the final spectacle until the day. We will be putting a notice on Facebook and Twitter at 13:00 to let you know whether we can let in more people. Watch those spaces.

What's on at the event?

As well as building your section of the chain, visitors can engage with Cambridge Science Centre exhibits, demonstrations from the Cambridge Hands-On Science (CHaOS) Roadshow, and see the mayhem of the Chain Reaction launch.

Doors open at 11:00, and the Chain Reaction launch is at 16:00.

Book your place to help build the chain today. You can take part with family or friends, start today and bring along your engineering marvel, or you can get started on the day with access to our supplies, tools and helpful hints from our friendly staff and volunteers. Each link in the chain must conform to some safety and space constraints. Find out more about building constraints here, and get inspired by some of our helpful building tips and tricks here!

School Zone: - Schools from across the region will be bringing along their own contributions to the chain to assemble on the day. Be sure to head along to the School Zone to check out their creations. Find out how your school can get involved here.

Corporate Entries: - This event is a great day to tell the public about your educational outreach! You might even want to use the opportunity to announce a new outreach programme. You can find out more about opportunities and support for company entries here.

Tickets:

This will allow you and up to 5 others to build a section of the chain, access to building materials and help with your design from staff on-hand. And your entry could win £100 worth of science and technology toys and kits for the 'Best Group Link' in the chain!

No other entry is permitted except for those taking part in building the Chain Reaction.

You can build some or all of your part of the chain at home before the event and bring along what you have made for final tweaking on the day. When doing this you will need to stick to the following restrictions. Buy your building pass first to be sure that there's a place for you in the chain.
