Charity parking partnership aims to take the strain out of Christmas shopping

Christmas shoppers in Cambridge are being invited to take advantage of a festive car parking partnership between Papworth Trust and Downing College.

The disability charity has teamed up with the university to offer motorists a chance to park at Downing College for just £8 for the day – with all proceeds going to Papworth Trust.

The car park will be open between 8am and 6pm next Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December and Christmas Eve.

Volunteers are also being sought to help man the Regent Street car park for a two-hour time period with anyone offering to help getting free parking at the College for the entire day.

Jeff Massey, volunteer programme manager, said: “We are delighted to once again be partnering with Downing College to offer this fabulous opportunity.

“You could take some of the stress and strain out of Christmas shopping by parking close to the city centre while supporting our vital work with disabled and older people.

“We are so grateful to everyone at Downing College for once again donating their car park. This partnership has raised much-needed funds in the past and I am sure it will be a big success once again.”

Volunteers are needed between the hours of 8am and 6pm on each of the three days.

Anyone interested should contact Papworth Trust’s volunteering team on 01480 357292.
