They will be plunging 13,000 feet to raise money for Sane, a UK-wide charity working to raise mental health awareness and improve the quality of life for people affected by mental illness.
Nicola Housden, Noel Cassidy, Codie Humphries, Sammy Eggar and Jade Harbord – who all work in different areas of the college – are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity with their jump on 2 July.
At least four of the five are terrified of heights – but are determined to do something special in memory of 25 year-old James, who was the college’s transport officer.
“Four of us are absolutely petrified of heights and can’t believe we ever had the mad idea of doing a sky dive, but we all wanted to do something special in memory of James,” said Nicola.
“We’ll be jumping from 13,000 feet to raise money and awareness for a charity very close to our hearts and we’re hoping for lots of support. Any donation, no matter how large or small will help Sane in a massive way.
“Unfortunately mental health issues are on the rise, especially in younger people, so we feel that it is very important to raise awareness for a charity which addresses these issues head on.
“Sane is a small charity which relies on donations and awareness from fundraisers like our sky dive. Just £10 enables one person to receive personal and emotional support, helping them on their journey from crisis to recovery.”
