Monitoring Customer Behaviour to aid Fraud Detection and Reduce Churn – David Excell of Featurespace Ltd.
By gathering and monitoring data on changes in individual customer behaviour from multiple sources, software products developed by the Cambridge-based company Featurespace Ltd. suggest when such behaviour indicates fraudulent activity and can also forecast when customers are considering a change of supplier. It can work using only small amounts of historical data and can recognise early indications of behavioural change in real-time.
How is it done? Who needs it? Should we fear it? Why is it better than current behavioural forecasting methods? Do these techniques risk possible invasions of privacy? What is the likelihood of a false conclusion being drawn?

Speaker Dr. David Excell is CTO and co-founder of Featurespace with his former PhD supervisor Prof. Bill FitzGerald (an expert in behavioural analytics and the application of Bayesian inference to data modelling from Cambridge University’s Applied Statistics and Signal Processing Department).
Founded in 2005, the company is backed by a range of institutional and angel investors including Imperial Innovations, NESTA, Cambridge Capital Group and Cambridge Angels - individual investors include the founder and former CEO of Autonomy, Dr Mike Lynch (who is a non-executive director and whose PhD was also supervised by Prof. Fitzgerald).
David’s role is to oversee core product development and delivery.
His presentation will explain and demonstrate the Featurespace technology and will describe the company’s business strategy and market focus. The meeting will include a Q & A session.
