BioBlitz is an international concept that aims to highlight the diversity of animal species by involving the community in recording and monitoring many different species over a 24 hour period. It offers the opportunity for local residents and visitors to meet wildlife experts, ask questions and to enjoy their local parks, gardens and green spaces.

Experts from Cambridge University Botanic Garden, the University Museum of Zoology, the Department of Zoology and local wildlife organisations will be at the Garden recording different species over a 24 hour period on 27/28 April. There will be lots of opportunities for members of the public to join in - with thirty pre-bookable events on offer plus various drop in activities.
During BioBlitz 2016 a new species was discovered – the Megaselia trinityensis – a phorid (scuttle fly), named after Trinity College Garden, where it was found. This year, there will also be many opportunities to potentially discover a new species.
Events on offer range from butterfly spotting, spider surveying and owl pellet dissection to bat sound analysis. If you are an early riser, join us for our birdsong walk at 5.30am on Sunday 28 April – when you can also learn to identify those early morning bird calls.
Events start at midday on Saturday 27 April and conclude with a torchlight walk at 9pm. Sunday activities start at 5.30am with the birdsong walk and finish at 11.30am with some pond dipping.
