Cheffins finances cancer care unit

Cheffins has donated £10,000 for a community oncology treatment unit at St George’s Medical Centre, Littleport. This facility will help some cancer sufferers to avoid travelling to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for routine chemotherapy sessions.

The St George’s oncology treatment unit was officially opened by Stephen Barclay, MP for North East Cambridgeshire.

Gary Shepherd, Practice Manager at St George’s, said: “This community unit will potentially cover all patients within the Isle of Ely cluster of GP practices, wherever appropriate, and Addenbrooke’s anticipates that 600 – 800 treatment sessions will be provided each year. Referrals will be made by Addenbrooke’s for patients under its care.

"The Cheffins’ donation has allowed us to convert a former office into a clinically sound oncology unit. The donation has been made to the charity P.U.L.S.E. which provides a range of equipment to the medical centre."

Edwin Lee of Cheffins said: "Cheffins is very pleased to use its Community Charity Fund to support the local community in such a manner."
