City centre hotel will be revamped

A city centre hotel is set to undergo a major transformation next summer.

The iconic Crowne Plaza in Downing Street is now known as the Cambridge City  Hotel after London and Regional Cambridge Limited purchased the property in  July, taking over the operational management of the site.

Robin Hutton, managing director of the hotel, says that the aim is to revamp  the restaurant, guest bedrooms and conference rooms.

He said: “We have always been very proud of the service that we offer but we  believe that the standards guests expect are higher than ever and we want to  improve facilities to ensure we offer the best services possible.

“The work will start in the summer during which time the hotel will remain  open. The end result will be very beautiful but we aim to use the current  footprint.

“A sign reflecting the new name of the hotel will be erected in three  weeks.”

L&R (Cambridge) Limited is a subsidiary of London & Regional  Properties Limited – a company that has invested in Hilton hotels, Cumberland  Hotels in London and others in France, Russia, Panama and the Caribbean.
