Charlotte Barrington and Amy Winterbourne, both from Cambridge, decided to have their long hair shaved off to aid their fundraising before they take on the Ben Nevis Challenge next month.
The friends (pictured before and after the hair cuts), who have now raised more than £1,400 for the charity, wanted to thank everyone who supported them on the night, admitting it helped them go ahead with the hair shave.
Charlotte, a volunteer for Papworth Trust, said: “Both of us have done our own fundraising before, but we wanted to do a big gesture and stand out.
“We know it's had a big impact. It's also a good conversation starter, which we hope will lead to even more donations for Papworth Trust's community projects.
“We want to thank everyone who has donated so far and everyone who came on the night to offer us some moral support. It was quite a big thing for both of us - we're still getting used to our new looks.”
The head shave, which took place at the Portland Arms in Cambridge and raised almost £500 on its own, was supported by local musician Gavin Chappell-Bates who launched his new single ‘95’ on the night.
Charlotte, 23, and Amy, 26, are now turning their attentions to the Ben Nevis Challenge in September, which will see their team of four climb the 1,300 metres, cycle 25 miles and canoe round Loch Lochy all in one day to raise money for Papworth Trust.
They will be joined by John Ide and Jeff Massey, volunteer programme manager at the charity.
