A compact sense of hearing enables innovative capabilities on new mass-market Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G

Audio Analytic has announced that its Media Tagging and Acoustic Scene Recognition technologies have been pre-validated and optimised for use with the new Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 778G 5G Mobile Platform, , which has just been unveiled and will bring breathtaking 5G and AI performance and capabilities to the smartphone mass-market.

Media Tagging is an innovative AI capability that empowers smartphone OEMs to introduce a brand new, high-demand feature that tags users’ videos and photos based on sounds present during capture or recording. This enables users to quickly find amazing memories in their media collection, as well as support on-the-fly editing using contextually relevant effects, filters, and frames.

Here is a brief video to explain what Media Tagging is and why it is so exciting.

In a recent independent consumer survey* of US and UK smartphone owners between the ages of 18 and 44, nearly two-thirds of respondents said that they want Media Tagging on their next smartphone, while 78% want their next smartphone to dynamically adjust notification, alert and call settings based on the acoustic scene around them.

As with the Snapdragon 888 integration announced last December, smartphones based on the Snapdragon 778G can also deploy Audio Analytic's Acoustic Scene Recognition technology to adapt the UI settings of phones automatically based on the acoustic environment around the user. This means that smartphones can adapt to contextually relevant information regarding the user’s location. For example, by changing notification settings based on whether the user is in a chaotic coffee shop or working in their calm office.

And because Audio Analytic's Acoustic Scene Recognition technology (running on our ultra-compact ai3-nano™ software platform) is also pre-validated to run in always-on low-power mode with the Qualcomm® Sensing Hub, it can run alongside a wake word module. This means that consumers don’t have to choose between voice recognition and sound recognition.

Audio Analytic's technology is exceptionally compact and power-efficient, which is important as it runs everything on-device to protect consumer privacy.

*About the survey from Audio Analytic

The survey was conducted by Sapio Research among over 2,005 owners of true wireless earbud and smartphone in the US and UK, all between 18 and 44 years of age and representative of gender and location.

Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the percentages expressing the results. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 2.2 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample.
