It has issued this advice:
“The FCO advise against all but essential travel to parts of the country.
"The FCO advise against all travel in the immediate vicinity of the border with Pakistan, other than at Wagah.
"The FCO advise against all travel to Manipur and all but essential travel to Imphal, the state capital of Manipur.
"The FCO advise against all travel to Jammu and Kashmir with the exception of the cities of Jammu and Srinagar, travel between these two cities on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, and the region of Ladakh.
"State assembly elections in Karnataka are scheduled for 5 May, 2013, and the results will be announced 8 May, 2013. During the campaign period, there is a risk that sporadic political demonstrations or violence may occur. BNs planning to travel to or currently residing in large cities in Karnataka are advised to monitor the media, avoid large crowds and take extra care.
"There is a high threat from terrorism throughout India. Recent attacks have targeted public places including those visited by foreigners.”
