Recently a number of businesses on Mill Road received a letter from a disabled person who uses a wheelchair, alleging that the premises did not meet the person’s access needs and asking businesses to make adaptations or face legal action. Some of these businesses have been subject to court cases.
The Equality Act 2010 now covers the rights given in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 - that reasonable changes or adjustments should be made to ensure that everyone has access to businesses/ organisations providing goods, facilities or services to members of the public.
