The club, along with the stadium’s landlord Grosvenor Developments, have announced their plan to rebuild the Abbey as a community stadium. Grosvenor are also proposing to build a ‘sporting village’, to the west of Hauxton Road and north of the M11, subject to decisions by the Inspector conducting the examination into the South Cambridgeshire Local Plan.
Cllr Kevin Blencowe, Executive Councillor for Planning Policy and Transport, said: “We look forward to hearing more about Cambridge United’s plans for investing in the Abbey Stadium.
“The redevelopment of the Abbey as a stadium with accessible facilities for the whole community has the potential to be of great benefit to the city.”
