The students shone in the prestigious event as they competed against university college chefs, winning praise for their outstanding dishes. Seven students won a collection of Merit, Bronze and Silver awards in both the Cook-Off and Salon Culinaire categories – a stellar result for the college.
Seventeen year-old Jessica’s dish of black bream, celeriac purée, pickled vegetables with lemon dressing wowed the judges – some of the region’s top chefs – in the Junior Main Course Live event, winning her a Silver and the cup for Best in Class, as well as the overall award for Best CRC Student in the competition.
CRC lecturer Ian Sparke said the students had performed outstandingly in a competition which tested their skills to the limit.
“They were all stars and proved their skills in a highly prestigious competition,” he said. “All of them are very talented young chefs and we are very proud of them. Jessica was absolutely outstanding on the day and it was fantastic that she won the cup for Best in Class – it was a huge achievement.”
The competition, which was held at CRC, attracted talented chefs from across the university, with members of the public offered a rare chance to see them in action.
