In the late summer of 1833 the Amphitrite, a convict ship carrying 102 female convicts and 12 of their children, was wrecked just 100m off Boulogne's promenade in full view of thousands of spectators. When the tide went out the ship was in 8' of water and in easy reach of her willing rescuers. And yet, despite everything, the captain refused all offers of help, and in a matter of hours the ship was smashed to pieces by the incoming tide, and all but three were drowned. The story shocked the nation and the Government Inquiry that followed hushed up the details, including the names of the women, whose identities were lost to history. Until now.
Sea Nymph, based on the book Beautiful Bodies by Gerald Stone, will bring the full and tragic story to the big screen, and Dalati is leading the funding campaign. The management team now being assembled has Emmy, Bafta and Oscar nominated members, with many years of experience and several iconic films in their portfolios. The campaign will fund the development of the script, the schedule and budget, and it is this package that will provide the basis for production funding, which, if all goes well, will result in photography in 2014.
