He highlighted key measures including the scrapping of the two-child cap, higher minimum wages, increased pensions, extended Help to Save, frozen rail fares, and fairer taxation on high-value property, dividends and gambling profits.
In Parliament today, Mr Zeichner stressed the importance of restoring the public realm after decades of fragmentation:
“Too many expensive properties have escaped fair taxation for too long, and I strongly welcome the Government’s action. My constituents will also welcome the rail fare freeze. Years of privatisation weakened key services, and we still see the consequences today - from the probation service to neighbourhood shops selling illegal vapes because trading standards were hollowed out.”
He also raised local concerns about crime and housing in his constituency, calling for renewed regulatory capacity.
“This Budget is a strong start,” he said. “Rebuilding takes time, but this Government is right to prioritise fairness, stability and public responsibility.”
