Daphne Ward, which caters for women with health problems ranging from pregnancy issues and emergencies through to cancer care, has been reorganised, refurbished and updated.
It’s part of the second phase of the expansion of the Rosie hospital.
Gynaecological Oncologist Robin Crawford has been driving the change. He said “the newly refurbished ward will offer a truly integrated care system for women in need of all aspects of gynaecological care. For the first time, expert staff will be able to offer treatment for any emergency or elective condition in one clinical area. This seamless service will offer the highest standard of treatment for women across the Eastern Region and will allow us at the Rosie to get our patients better, faster”.
Daphne Ward is a refurbished ward for women experiencing problems in early pregnancy or who have gynaecological conditions at all ages. It offers early assessment for women who are in their first trimester or less than 13 weeks pregnant. It will offer support and care for women undergoing major cancer surgery as well as surgical treatments for incontinence, prolapse and endometriosis.
The refurbishment means that instead of directing women to the Treatment Centre, the ward will also now be able to offer emergency surgery for those who are miscarrying or who have ectopic pregnancies. Follow up gynaecological assessments will also be available on the same site.
Head of midwifery Anna Shasha said “This is a fantastic step forward and great news for women in early pregnancy and also those with gynaecological problems. By uniting all our services in one place we can treat patients faster and more effectively by applying state of the art care”.
The Daphne ward will officially re-open on Monday (18th November).
