DFJ Esprit acquires TTP Ventures

DFJ Esprit LLP has entered into an agreement with TTP Ventures - the investment arm of TTP Group plc - for the acquisition of all of its venture capital investments. Included in the transaction are TTP Ventures’ investments in Displaydata and Pulmagen Therapeutics (Asthma), among others.

TTP Ventures represents the tenth direct secondary venture capital portfolio acquisition by DFJ Esprit. Alongside its traditional venture capital activities, these portfolio acquisitions comprise 140 companies and include 3i’s European portfolio, Prelude Trust plc, Top Technology, Viventures and others across Europe.

“The TTP Ventures portfolio has had some notable successes but as a 1999 vintage fund it had limited time or capacity left to see its remaining portfolio companies through to maturity. With a new time horizon and further investment we can take Displaydata, Pulmagen and others on to exit,” said David Tate, Partner, DFJ Esprit.

Displaydata, which was established in 2000, is a leader in the design and supply of fully graphic electronic shelf labels (ESLs) and dynamic digital display solutions. Displaydata’s product portfolio offers a cost-effective solution to many of the challenges facing omni-channel retailers. Its new and future products support the vision of an integrated buying experience, offering enriched product and promotional information to optimise conversion and drive profitability. Pulmagen Therapeutics (Asthma) Limited, a drug development company, develops novel treatments for respiratory diseases. Pulmagen Therapeutics (Asthma) Limited was formerly known as Argenta Oral Therapeutics Limited. The company was incorporated in 2008 and is based in Slough, United Kingdom. The consideration for these transactions is undisclosed.

DFJ Esprit is one of Europe’s most experienced growth and venture capital investors, helping entrepreneurs build ground-breaking technology companies. In recent years, DFJ Esprit’s companies have achieved exits that have generated more than $3billion in combined enterprise value. Portfolio companies include Achica, Conversocial, Lyst, Sportpursuit, Trustpilot, Graze, EVE (acquired by Synopsys), Horizon Discovery (IPO on AIM), Icera (acquired by Nvidia), LOVEFiLM (acquired by Amazon), Oxford Immunotec (IPO on NASDAQ), The Cloud (acquired by BSkyB), and Zeus (acquired by Riverbed).

“As well as investing directly in Europe’s most ambitious entrepreneur led companies, DFJ Esprit acquires and revitalises portfolios of venture backed companies and adds further investment and active management,” said Simon Cook, CEO, DFJ Esprit.
