Module 3: International Leadership, Culture and Governance - 15th March 2017
Dr Philip Stiles

This session will address some of the central issues in leading and managing effective organisations. We look at the four guiding elements of an organisation – leadership, culture and the behaviour of people within the firm (organisational behaviour) and governance and show the latest thinking in each area and also how these areas interrelate and align.

The topics we will address are:

  • International leadership – the manner in which leadership style differs across different national cultures
  • Culture – national cultural differences and ways in which these can be managed to best effect
  • Organisational Behaviour – how we motivate individuals to bring out the best in them in terms of performance and how employees differ in terms of motivation across borders
  • Governance - governance and ethical standards differ in different jurisdictions – this can make dealing across borders complex and it requires insight and sensitivity on the part of managers to make appropriate judgements

The learning approach will be based on focused inputs from Cambridge faculty, UK Export Finance and case studies of East of England companies.
