How long have you had them now?

If it’s longer than four years, you may be interested to know that a PC that old causes an average of 112 hours a year of lost productivity due to slowness, maintenance, repairs, and other downtime issues.

That’s a lot of lost time, 14 full working days in fact.

PCs of this age are 2.7 times more likely to need repairing. And they simply cost more to own and run than the newer models.

There’s also a security impact of running older hardware. There comes a point in a PC’s life when it can’t run the latest updates, or is incompatible with patches that need to be installed.

In most cases, this will be longer than four years, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you or your team are working on older devices. It’s vital that you install updates to keep your school or business and its data protected.

I understand that it’s not always feasible to replace all of your PCs when they hit a certain age. Your budget may simply not cater for it all in one go, especially if you didn’t realise the average lifespan of a device.

Next time you’re creating your IT budget, remember the benefits of upgrading your hardware.

In the meantime, make sure your PCs are running as well as they can be by keeping them well maintained and cared for.

Run updates immediately and ensure your team reports issues as soon as they happen to avoid additional downtime.

If we can help you to check the health of your hardware, find updated equipment to fit your budget, or keep your current PCs in good order, please get in touch.
