Domino delivers ‘Egg To Pallet’ coding for Portugal’s Happiest Hens

A Cambridge company is partnering with one of Portugal’s largest egg producers to deliver a range of its coding and marking technologies which will ensure strict quality assurance processes, traceability and compliance with global food safety standards. Domino, headquartered in Bar Hill and a long-term supplier to the egg industry in the UK and further afield, is providing shell to shelf coding for Grupo CAC, market leader in the European and international market.

Shell to Shelf Egg Coding From Domino

Grupo CAC was founded 30 years ago as a legal cooperative of 13 producers managing 3.4 million laying hens on 65 farms across Portugal. The company trusts Domino to provide reliable and secure coding of its Matinados egg brand.

After grading, each eggshell is printed with a variable code by an Ax350i continuous inkjet printer, a ‘passport’ enabling full traceability from the point of sale right back to the place of production.

Egg pack coding is managed by the Gx350i thermal ink jet printer which provides high quality, high resolution coding on up to 80 packs per minute. These are then transferred to shipping cases and pallets, ready to ship out to grocery stores across Portugal with each pallet labelled for distribution by a Domino M230I-T4 labeller.

All Domino’s inks, consumables and products comply with EU standards and FDA regulations regarding food safety, ensuring global market readiness.

Manuel Sobreiro, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Grupo CAC, says: “With Domino as our partner, we are confident we can maintain our position as market leader in the European and international market. Domino’s technology ensures secure and lasting identification across our entire value chain, making traceability and quality control effortless.”
