Domino Printing helps science activities at local school get off to a flying start

Domino Printing has pledged to deliver a three-year programme of structured enrichment sessions to children in Year 4 at Bar Hill Community Primary School.

Pupils at a Cambridgeshire school are set to benefit from a partnership with a local company which will provide regular science activities over the next three years.

Domino Printing has pledged to deliver a three-year programme of structured enrichment sessions to children in Year 4 at Bar Hill Community Primary School.

Based on the theme of Flight, this year’s programme includes an introduction to flight, how to build a plane, the aerodynamics of flight, space and flight in nature, all led by a team of seven Domino employees.

The programme got off to a flying start with a sponsored visit from the Raptor Foundation when they gave the pupils a special demonstration involving a number of birds of prey.

This follows Domino Printing’s December donation of a selection of items as resource materials to enhance science lessons including electricity kits, bird feeding kits and nesting boxes.

Christina Bird, Senior Analytical Chemist and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Ambassador at Domino said: “Key Domino staff are currently working towards providing support and activities as outlined in the school’s curriculum. I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to lead this exciting collaboration between Domino and Bar Hill Community Primary”.

Sharon Viccars, Internal Communications Executive at Domino added: “We have always enjoyed a good relationship with Bar Hill School who have visited our headquarters over the years to learn more about what we do.

“We are now delighted to have formalised our partnership with Bar Hill Community Primary School which will enhance STEM learning in the classroom. The benefits work both ways – not only can the children experience a wider range of activities but also our scientists and engineers can show the children the real science and engineering happening within the local community, and the fun involved with being a scientist or engineer. It will also let the children see the career opportunities STEM subjects can create.”

The Raptor Foundation is a registered charity based at Huntingdon with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate and return injured birds of prey back to the wild and to protect and preserve them through education and conservation.
